History

 

Similar to other northeastern states of the country, Mizoram was initially a component of Assam and formed as a separate Union Territory after 1972. On 20 February 1987, the UT became the 23rd state of the country with the 53RD Amendment of the Indian Constitution, 1986.

Places to Visit

Aizawl

The motherland of Mizos and the hometown of Mizoram State Museum, Aizawl is a beautiful place in the North East and the most placid state capitals in the country, being the religious & cultural capital of the Mizos. Aizawl is one among the ancient cities in the northeast of India and it sets out an awe-inspiring and high-flown glance that soothe the senses of the perceiver.

 

Tourist Attractions: Durtlang Hills, Reiek, Vantawng Falls, Mizoram State Museum, KV Paradise, Solomon Temple

Serchhip

Serchhip is a very well-known district famous for its high literacy rate and vibrancy that radiates from each & every element of this place. This is a small yet very active state that offers a bundle of activities for the globetrotter to enjoy. Villages like Neihloh and Buangpuri are must-visit when you come to this place to feel & observe nature too closely with Vantawng Khawhltha waterfall, Hriantrengna lung, and Chhingpui Thlan.

Kolasib

The Kolasib district is one among the total of 8 administrative districts of Mizoram state, nestled in the northern side of the state. The place is strategically established and forms an easy link to the prime cities of the state & state capital via roads and NH- 54. With a huge tribal population, the traditional & cultural are highly maintained here. Nuzzled among the heavy green areas & orchids, Kolasib is a picnic spot to enjoy fishing in the Tlawng River streams.

Lunglei

Lunglei is known for its panoramic and unrefined, untouched beauty and its literal meaning is ‘the bridge of rock’. With adventure activities like trekking & sports with the bird seeing, natural sightseeing, this place becomes a perfect weekend away spot in the southern region of the Mizoram state, close to the famous Aizawl city.

 

Tourist Attractions: Khawnglung Wildlife Sanctuary, Lunglei Sightseeing, Trekking, Adventurous Activities, Saikuti Hall, Nghasih Stream, Thorangtlang Wildlife Sanctuary

Champhai 

Champhai is a well-planned town adorned with panoramic hills and embraced with a hueful mix of culture. The place offers an array of tourist attractions besides enticing ambiance and adventurous fun like trekking at the Thasiama Seno Neihna.

 

Tourist Attractions: Kungawrhi Puk, Rih Dil Lake, Murlen National Park, Lengteng Wildlife Sanctuary, Lunglen Tlang, Thasiama Semo Neihna.

Best Time: October to June

 

Saiha 

Saiha is the fastest developing town in Mizoram with a considerably increased population over the last decade. Saiha is nestled at an average altitude of 729 meters in the Saiha district. The name of this census town has a mystical meaning behind it where Siaha is made of two words Sia and Ha, Sia means elephant whereas ha means tooth so Saiha means elephant’s tooth.

 

Tourist Attractions: Palak Wildlife Sanctuary, Palak Dil, Evangelical Church, Cci Church.

Best Time: November to May

 

Mamit 

Famous for unique & attractive locales and beauty, the Mamit district is the fourth largest district of Mizoram state. Bordered by Hailakandi district of the state of Assam in the north, North Tripura district of Tripura in the west, Lunglei district in the south, and Kolasib & Aizawl districts in the east, the district becomes a center connect to all the must-go tourist destination. 

 

Tourist Attractions: Dampa Wildlife Sanctuary, Saitlaw, West Phaileng, Kanghmun, Pukzing, Lungkulh

Best Time: November to March
