History

Dadra and Nagar Haveli was identified as a de facto state and controlled by Varishta Panchayat from 1954 to 1961. In 1961, the 10th Amendment of the Constitution of India was initiated to label Dadra and Nagar Haveli as a union territory.  In 2019, the Parliament of India initiated legislation to unify Dadra and Nagar Haveli with Daman and Diu to result in a single UT i.e. Dadra and Nagar Haveli.

Places to visit

Silvassa

Surrounded by nature and couched in the south of Gujarat and near to Vapi, Silvassa is the capital of UT Dadra and Nagar Haveli. Known for its rich greenery, beautiful resorts and taxless alcohol, Silvassa is an enticing destination for adventure-lovers who can not miss having fun in the water-parks and western ghats. The place offers an equally delightful treat to history chasers as well as the Portuguese culture and heritage one can luxuriate in. 

Tourist Attractions: Tribal Cultural Museum, Nakshatra Garden, Vanganga Lake, Lion Safari Wildlife Park, Island Garden.

 

Dudhani

At a distance of 40 km from Silvassa, Dudhani is a large lake turned up as a renowned tourist spot in the past few years. In recent years, it has emerged as a favourite holiday haven for localities of Surat, Mumbai, Vapi and Valsad, the credit may be taken by the Madhuban Dam built on Daman Ganga as its formation has to the construction of a waterfront in Dudhani which further made it a full-filled destination for aqua sports. Apart from enjoying the panoramic beauty, a large number of travellers come here for adventurous fun every year.

Tourist Attractions: Dudhani Falls, Dudhani Lake, Island Garden Dadra Park, Water Sports Complex, Vandhara Garden, Dudhani Garden, Bal Udhyan. 

 

Luhari

To sidetrack the mind and find the inner self, Luhari is a splendid nature-rich destination just 14 km from Silvassa. For a break from hectic hours, Luhari welcomes you to a soothing healing lap of Mother Nature away from the boggling activities. Luhari is surrounded by several machan-like resorts that offer complete serenity in the forested areas. Besides, it is a perfect getaway for adventure enthusiasts also as the tourist department keeps organising sports activities like camping, trekking in the woodlands.

 

Khanvel

At a distance of 20 km from Silvassa, Khanvel is one of the favourite destinations among nature enthusiasts. For the leisure and lazy trip, travellers come here to get casted away from the city’s hustle & bustle in the serenity of valleys and nature. It is the ideal place to take our heart in the ancient tales and listen to the magical sound of the blue river passing the forest having abundant diversity.

Kauncha

Best Time to Visit Dadra and Nagar Haveli

To enjoy the pleasant winter season, the place must be visited between November and February and to take pleasure in the moderate summer season, one must visit the place between April and June.
